What is the name of one book that has been a great influence to you?
How to Win Friends and Influence People, by Dale Carnegie. It’s one of my all-time favorite books that still influences me, and the leader I am, today. I have every single new employee at TSheets read this book.
In what ways have you contributed to your firm/company to make it better?
As a co-founder, I had the privilege of developing the Mission, Vision, and Core Values for TSheets, which still to this day guides day-to-day decision-making, hiring, prioritization of company initiatives and more within TSheets.
In what ways do you participate in the professional community to change/improve the accounting profession?
I regularly speak at accounting conferences and conventions, offering business insight and practical ways accountants can build their practices and better help their clients. The employee time tracking service we provide free to accounting professionals subsequently, when referred, transforms the lives of their clients and employees.
In what ways do you participate in your local community to help others?
I’m a part of Vistage, Executive Committee Member for the Idaho Technology Council, Board of trustees for the Boise State University Computer Science Department, and I speak at a number of local technology, entrepreneurship and startup events.
What changes do you foresee in the accounting profession of the near future (3-5 years)?
The changes I see occurring in the near future for the accounting profession is a significant shift toward improving efficiency with cloud technologies. The tools that accountants choose to use themselves and that they refer to their clients will be cloud based solutions that integrate seamlessly with most business software. Furthermore, technology will become more intuitive and be able to predict employee behavior based on past trends to completely automate how they operate. In many cases, it will require very little interaction with the technology at all.
How do you see yourself participating in shaping the future of the accounting profession?
Here at TSheets we are passionate about helping accountants build their practice and we do so by providing them with business tools and insights to improve their business and those of their clients. We will continue to develop strong partners and work with industry leaders to offer accountants the benefits of more efficient and cost-effective cloud technologies.
What is your career philosophy?
I’m passionate about building a company that grows bigger, faster and stronger in order to make a significant impact on small businesses around the globe.
Describe one person who has been an important mentor to you and how that person helped change your life.
TJ Dickerson was a mentor of mine as a young leader, and he showed me the infinite value of leading people through relationships.
